Innovation Strategies for Multinational Countries: the EU versus Asia
Presented by Professor Erik Vermeulen (Tilburg University)
In the current economic climate, European and Japanese companies seem to struggle with the increasing competition from emerging countries. At the same time, the economic crisis has been placing enormous pressure on the competitiveness of Japanese companies. This lecture argued that companies should adopt a corporate venturing/open innovation approach to deal adequately with the challenges posed by the globalizing economy. He stressed that the innovation in product development and marketing is a key strategy for Japanese companies to survive and grow.
This symposium was co-organized with Fukuoka Chamber of Commerce, and many people from business entities participated in the lecture.  The Q&A session was the most active part of the lecture and it showed that this lecture was a valuable opportunity for business people to learn innovative marketing strategy which is going on in Europe and inspired by Prof. Vermeulen’s speech.
